Assignment 3 – Creating My First Blog

We Can Blog It!

Chapter 2 is all about set up and customizing your web site, and navigating around the dashboard and all the tab and dropdown features in the ‘back-end’ of your site. The Admin Panel is where you can create and access your pages, store your media library, and view and control comments. It is also where you can choose the Theme of your site and customize it to your liking, as well as choose all settings, tools, and plugins for your preferred functionality of your web space. Like the c-panel that handles the connectivity of your site, the admin panel is a control center from where everything you see on the published site is created.

Chapter 3 gives instructions on how to create a blog. Three things I learned are:

  • How to use WP’s block editor (as in the past I used only SiteOrigin page builder). I do prefer the SiteOrigin because I’m most familiar with it and it has more tools and features, but it is good to know WP’s version as well.
  • Set up and control of comments. Of all the sites/blogs I created in the past, comments were not needed, so this is new to me.
  • The use of Excerpts and how they help with SEO in searches.
